Hip Pain Treatment in ELGIN & GENEVA

Personalized Care for Every Patient

Hip pain that lasts longer than a week is not something you can afford to ignore. When pain lasts this long with no signs of getting better, it’s best to have it treated as quickly as possible. Trying to work through the pain often only makes the situation worse and will make it harder to recovery with noninvasive treatments.

At Fox Valley Orthopedics, we provide treatment for all types of hip conditions. When necessary, we will perform surgery to fix the problem, including total hip replacement. However, we consider this a last resort treatment, as many patients can achieve the relief they need with less invasive procedures. We will help you explore all of your options.

What Does Your Hip Pain Feel Like?

Hip pain can show up differently depending on what's causing it. Our specialists evaluate and treat a wide range of symptoms, including:

  • Pain in the hip, groin, or inner thigh
  • Pain on the outer hip or side of the thigh
  • Hip pain when walking, standing, or climbing stairs
  • Hip pain when sitting for extended periods
  • Aching or stiffness in the morning or after rest
  • Hip pain at night that disrupts sleep
  • Sharp pain in the hip when moving or bearing weight
  • Hip pain after a fall or accident
  • A clicking, popping, or locking sensation in the hip joint
  • Hip pain that radiates down the leg

Your symptoms are important diagnostic clues. Where the pain is located, when it occurs, and what makes it better or worse all help our team identify the underlying cause and build the right treatment plan for you.

Frequently Asked Hip Pain Questions

What causes hip pain in the groin area?

Pain in the groin area often originates from inside the hip joint itself, rather than the outer hip. Common causes include femoroacetabular impingement (FAI), a labral tear, osteoarthritis, or hip bursitis of the iliopsoas bursa. Because groin pain can sometimes be caused by non-orthopedic issues as well, it's important to have it properly evaluated. A hip specialist can pinpoint the source and rule out other conditions.

Why does my hip hurt when I walk?

Hip pain that worsens with walking is most commonly associated with osteoarthritis, hip bursitis, or a labral tear. The pain may be felt in the groin, outer hip, or thigh, and can range from a dull ache to a sharp, stabbing sensation. If walking becomes difficult or painful regularly, it's worth having the hip evaluated - many of these conditions are very treatable when caught early.

Why does my hip hurt when I sit?

Hip pain while sitting is often a sign of femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) or a labral tear, both of which cause pain when the hip is flexed (bent) for extended periods. Hip flexor tightness and hip bursitis can also contribute. If sitting at a desk or driving triggers your hip pain, it's a good idea to have the hip examined.
