Guidelines for Outdoor Exercise During COVID-19
With spring just around the corner, many athletes are preparing to head back to training for their sports. However, you may find yourself wondering if it's safe to train outdoors as we continue to deal with the pandemic.
Understanding COVD-19
Coronavirus disease 2019, or COVID-19, is an illness that is caused by a virus that can be easily spread from person to person. Typically, COVID-19 is spread when you're in close contact with an infected person from respiratory droplets spread through coughing, sneezing, or even talking.
Signs and symptoms of COVID-19 include but are not limited to:
- Cough
- Fever or chills
- Shortness of breath
- Body aches
- Sore throat
- New loss of taste or smell
- Congestion
- Runny nose
- Diarrhea
- Nausea or vomiting
- Headaches
- Fatigue
When to Wear Your Mask
As the weather warms up and we venture outside to work out and train for the sports season ahead, it's important to take proper precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The best way to do so is to practice social distancing and wear your mask when necessary.
To practice proper social distancing protocol, you should stay at least 6 feet away from people outside of your household. This helps to minimize the risk of becoming infected or spreading infection to others through respiratory droplets.
When you find yourself in an outdoor place where you cannot guarantee that you can stay at least 6 feet away from others, it is essential that you wear your mask to protect yourself and your clothes. Follow these tips to make sure your mask is working properly:
- Your mask should cover your nose, mouth, and chin securely.
- Your mask should fit snugly against the sides of your face.
- You should be able to breathe comfortably in your mask.
