In the following interview, Dr. Joshua Alpert, Orthopedic Surgeon, shares more about the new Fox Valley Orthopedics website and the thinking behind the project. Responses have been condensed for length.

The website has a new look. How does the design reflect Fox Valley Orthopedics today?

Dr. Alpert: The new website gave us an opportunity to bring our refreshed brand to life across the digital experience. The design feels current and approachable while keeping the focus on our patients, providers, and the care we deliver.

The visual design and user experience also work together. We wanted the site to do more than look different. The goal was to make information clearer and help people move through the site more easily.

Why was this the right time for Fox Valley Orthopedics to invest in a new website?

Dr. Alpert: Fox Valley Orthopedics has continued to grow and evolve, and we wanted our digital presence to better reflect who we are today. Rather than updating individual pages or features, this gave us the opportunity to rethink the site as a whole and build something that can grow with us.

What are some of the biggest differences patients will notice?

Dr. Alpert: The site is much more intuitive. We took a fresh look at how information is organized, how patients move through the site, and how related content connects.

Search is another big improvement, making it easier to find physicians, services, conditions, treatments, and resources.

The site also works better across devices, which is especially important for patients accessing it from their phones.

A lot of work on a new website happens behind the scenes. Why was rebuilding the foundation important?

Dr. Alpert: A strong website has to do more than look good. The technology behind it affects performance, accessibility, search visibility, content management, and our ability to continue improving the site over time.

That stronger foundation gives us more flexibility as patient expectations and digital tools change, while making it easier to expand and connect content across the site.

What advice would you give other healthcare organizations considering a new website?

Dr. Alpert: Start with what patients need to accomplish rather than what the organization wants to say. Look at the questions patients have, the information they need, and the steps they’re trying to take.

A successful healthcare website also requires thinking beyond design. User experience, content strategy, accessibility, search, technical performance, and long-term flexibility all need to work together.

Finally, choose a partner that understands healthcare and how all of those pieces work together. You’re not building a website only for launch day. It needs to work for your organization and your patients well into the future.
