Here at Fox Valley Orthopedics, we help people receive fast and accurate diagnoses for all orthopedic conditions. We have the following imaging technologies available:

If you are a patient with concerns about claustrophobia, please let us know during the scheduling process. Our wide-bore MRI is usually well received by patients with these concerns. We have a variety of options to meet your needs. We know imaging tests aren’t always as comfortable as we might like, but we do our best to make patients as comfortable and anxiety-free as possible.

Can You Listen to Music During an MRI?
You’ll have the option to listen to music during your MRI scan. We’ll provide headphones and offer a variety of music for you to choose from. Feel free to ask any questions along the way—we want you to feel relaxed and at ease throughout the entire process.

How Long Does an MRI Take?

An MRI typically takes between 25 and 50 minutes to complete.

Are MRIs Harmful?
MRI technology does not use radiation, making it a safe imaging method. However, it is important to avoid entering the MRI suite with certain metallic, electronic, magnetic, or mechanical implants, devices, or objects. Please inform our staff if any of the following apply to you, so we can take the necessary precautions:

Cardiac pacemaker or implantable defibrillator
Brain aneurysm clip(s)
Heart implants or heart stents
Electronic implants or devices (e.g., drug pumps or neurostimulators)
Magnetic implants or devices
Cochlear (inner ear) implants
Bullets, shrapnel, or other metal fragments
Previous accident involving metal, especially in the eyes
Pregnancy
Some hair extensions and magnetic/metallic nail polishes and cosmetics

Your health is our priority, and we will always take the appropriate measures to ensure your comfort and safety during any imaging.

How to Prepare for Diagnostic Imaging

To prepare for a diagnostic imaging test, please adhere to the following guidelines:

Arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time
Metal is prohibited in the scanner; please leave jewelry and valuables at home.
Wear comfortable clothing and undergarments without metal. No athletic performance apparel, as many contain copper or other elements that can interfere with the MRI.

What Is an X-Ray?

An X-ray is a non-invasive imaging test that allows your doctor to view your bones for an accurate diagnosis. X-rays are ordered and interpreted by your care team during your appointment to:

Examine an area where you are experiencing pain or discomfort
Monitor the progression of healing

All Fox Valley Orthopedics MRIs are accredited by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC).

All MRI technologists are board-certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or the American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists.

X-ray technologists are board-certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and licensed by the state of Illinois.
